Reise Tools

Reise Tools is a free suite of financial calculators built for the growing class of independent professionals — freelancers, contractors, consultants, and the self-employed. Unlike generic calculators that return a number and nothing else, every tool in the suite shows the complete math: the formula, the variable substitution, and each step of the calculation. That trust layer now has a name: ShowMath. The goal is understanding, not just an answer.

The platform covers the financial decisions that matter most to people who work for themselves: setting a contract rate, comparing W-2 vs. 1099 compensation, calculating quarterly estimated taxes, projecting retirement savings without an employer match, and analyzing whether a rental property pencils out. With 100+ calculators and growing, it is the most comprehensive free toolset for the 1099 economy.

Reise Tools is built and maintained by Mitch Reise, an insurance industry professional based in the United States. The platform is fully client-side for all calculations — no account required, no data collected, no ads. Revenue comes from ProJobCalc, a companion SaaS product for insurance restoration contractors.

Mitch Reise spent years working in insurance and commercial contracting, where he watched skilled, experienced professionals consistently underprice their work. Not because they lacked expertise — but because the math of running independently is genuinely complex, and the tools that existed were either too simple or too opaque to be trusted.

The first version of what became Reise Tools was built to solve that problem personally: a freelance rate calculator that didn't just spit out a number but showed exactly why that number was right. It caught on with contractors in his professional network. More tools followed. Each one built around the same principle: don't just tell someone the answer — teach them the math so they can own the decision.

Today the platform includes 100+ calculators, a companion SaaS product (ProJobCalc) for the restoration contracting industry, and an experimental XP system that gamifies financial literacy. It is entirely bootstrapped. ShowMath is emerging as the most portable part of the story because it can travel from consumer tools into future embeds, partner experiences, and transparent product workflows.
